What matters here
- 1 in 3 Cases Is Male
- Yet men represent fewer than 10% of those who seek treatment. The gap between prevalence and care is enormous.
- Hormones Are Always Affected
- Disordered eating suppresses testosterone, disrupts thyroid function, and elevates cortisol — all addressable medically alongside recovery.
- Complete Confidentiality
- HIPAA-protected. Your visit, diagnosis, and treatment are fully private — never shared without your explicit consent.
- Recovery-Focused, Not Numbers-Focused
- Our approach centers wellness restoration across all five domains — energy, physical health, your relationship with food, mental wellbeing, and social connection.
At German Village Men's Clinic, we provide medical nutrition therapy in a judgment-free, confidential environment specifically designed for men. We treat the full picture: the medical consequences, the hormonal disruption, and the path toward a healthier relationship with food and your body.
Men and Disordered Eating: The Most Underserved Population
Eating disorders affect men at far higher rates than most people realize — 1 in 3 people with an eating disorder is male, yet men make up fewer than 1 in 10 of those who seek treatment. The reasons are largely cultural: disordered eating in men is rarely recognized, rarely discussed, and rarely treated.
Men's presentations often look different. Rather than restriction alone, men are more likely to present with muscle dysmorphia, orthorexia, binge-purge cycles tied to athletic performance, or restriction framed as "clean eating." The health consequences — hormonal suppression, bone loss, cardiac risk, electrolyte imbalance — are identical regardless of presentation.
At German Village Men's Clinic, we provide medical nutrition therapy in a judgment-free, confidential environment specifically designed for men. We treat the full picture: the medical consequences, the hormonal disruption, and the path toward a healthier relationship with food and your body.
Men are one in three of all people with an eating disorder, but fewer than one in ten of the people who seek treatment for one.

Nutritional Therapy Columbus Ohio — Common Questions
For more information, reach out to our office by phone at: +1(614) 759-1176
Do men really get eating disorders?
Yes — and far more commonly than most people know. Research suggests 1 in 3 people with an eating disorder is male, but men are dramatically undertreated due to stigma, misdiagnosis, and lack of male-focused care. Anorexia, bulimia, binge eating disorder, orthorexia, and muscle dysmorphia all affect men significantly.
What is medical nutrition therapy and how is it different from seeing a dietitian?
Medical nutrition therapy at GVMC is physician-supervised and includes full lab workups, hormone assessment, and medical monitoring alongside nutritional support. We address the medical consequences of disordered eating simultaneously — including hormonal disruption, electrolyte imbalance, and bone health — alongside nutritional rehabilitation.
How does disordered eating affect testosterone and hormones?
Significant caloric restriction or purging behaviors suppress the hypothalamic-pituitary axis, leading to reduced testosterone, disrupted thyroid function, and elevated cortisol. These changes compound over time and don't always resolve with nutritional recovery alone — which is why hormonal assessment and treatment are part of our approach.
Will you coordinate with my therapist or other providers?
Yes — with your consent. Eating disorder recovery requires a coordinated team. We work closely with therapists, dietitians, and psychiatrists to ensure medical and psychological recovery are aligned. We can also provide referrals to qualified eating disorder therapists in the Columbus area if needed.
Is this completely confidential?
Completely. All visits, diagnoses, and treatment are protected under HIPAA. We do not share your information with employers, family members, or any third party without your explicit written consent. Many of our patients seek care specifically because they are not ready to tell anyone else — that is completely valid and respected here.
How do I get started?
Book a free confidential consultation at GVMC. You don't need a referral, a diagnosis, or a specific label for what you're experiencing. If your relationship with food and your body is causing you distress or affecting your health, that's enough to come in. Call (614) 759-1176 or book online.
