What matters here
- Heart Disease Is #1
- Cardiovascular disease kills more men than any other condition — and 80% of events are preventable with early detection and intervention.
- Pre-Diabetes Is Silent
- 1 in 3 American adults has pre-diabetes — 84% don't know it. A simple fasting glucose test catches it years before it becomes diabetes.
- Hormones Affect Everything
- Low testosterone is present in 1 in 4 men over 30 and affects energy, mood, body composition, and cardiovascular risk — rarely tested in routine physicals.
- One Visit, Full Picture
- GVMC's comprehensive annual panel covers all six domains in a single visit — labs drawn same day, results reviewed by your physician.
At German Village Men's Clinic, we make preventative health simple, fast, and specific to men. One visit, comprehensive labs, a clear action plan. Same-day appointments, no long waits, results reviewed with you by a board-certified physician who actually explains what they mean.
Why Men Skip Preventative Care — and Why That Has to Change
Men are significantly less likely than women to seek preventative healthcare. The statistics are stark: men are 24% less likely to have visited a doctor in the past year, are diagnosed with cancer at later stages, and die an average of five years earlier — much of it from conditions that are preventable or treatable when caught early.
The reasons are cultural and practical — no symptoms, no time, no tradition of regular checkups. But the diseases that kill men most — cardiovascular disease, prostate cancer, type 2 diabetes, liver disease — are largely asymptomatic in their early stages. By the time symptoms appear, the window for easy intervention has often closed.

Men's Preventative Health Columbus Ohio — Common Questions
For more information, reach out to our office by phone at: +1(614) 759-1176
What does a comprehensive men's health panel include?
GVMC's comprehensive panel includes CBC, comprehensive metabolic panel, lipid panel, fasting glucose, HbA1c, total and free testosterone, thyroid panel (TSH, T3, T4), PSA, cortisol, DHEA, vitamin D, and urinalysis. Additional tests are ordered based on age, symptoms, and risk factors identified during your exam.
At what age should men start getting regular health checks?
Annual physicals should begin in your 20s for baseline establishment. Hormone screening is recommended starting at 30. PSA screening is recommended from 40-45 for average risk, earlier with family history. Colorectal screening begins at 45. The earlier you establish baseline values, the easier it is to detect meaningful changes over time.
Why isn't testosterone tested in a standard physical?
Most primary care physicals don't include testosterone because it's not part of standard guidelines for asymptomatic men. At GVMC, we include it routinely because low testosterone is common, often asymptomatic, and directly affects cardiovascular health, metabolic function, and quality of life. It's one of the most important tests most men never get.
How long does a comprehensive health check take?
Your initial appointment takes approximately 60–75 minutes including the physical exam, health history review, and lab draw. Lab results are typically available within 24–48 hours, at which point we schedule a brief follow-up to review findings and build your action plan.
Does insurance cover preventative health visits at German Village Men’s Clinic?
Many preventative services are covered under the Affordable Care Act with no copay for most insurance plans. Coverage varies by plan and specific tests ordered. GVMC also offers transparent self-pay pricing for men without insurance or who prefer direct-pay access. Call (614) 759-1176 to verify your coverage before your visit.
What happens if something is found in my labs?
Your physician reviews all results with you directly — no interpreting lab reports on your own. If something requires follow-up, we build an action plan together: additional testing, specialist referral, lifestyle intervention, or treatment at GVMC depending on what's found. Nothing falls through the cracks.
